Super cool but unsolicited botany fact I learned this week: self pollination is sexual reproduction in plants bc there is a realignment of the alleles. As it pertains to Anthurium hybridizing: seedlings born of self pollination aren’t as much of a “diluter” to the gene pool, for sentimental reasons I never thought this anyways-been breeding with SHERM since the start- but it is nice to have science back it up a bit.
